These are some tips and tricks to keep the product running without a hitch. Failure to do maintenance may result in issues.
Loctite all bolts
Grease all gears
We recommend a dry grease or white lithium for all hex bore gears
All bolts are tight and there are no gaps in the assembly
Gears mesh correctly and everything spins smoothly
Check for excessive wear on gears
Reapply grease
Verify everything still spins smoothly
Disassemble gearbox
Replace all gears, if aluminum gears were used
Clean all components
Inspect all components for wear and damage
Reassemble with new bolts with Loctite and grease all gears
FRC designers want to do the most in the least amount of space. One of our solutions to this is the WCP SS Flipped Gearbox. Combine the WCP SS Flipped Gearbox with any WCP bearing block that has a 2" center to center and unleash the power and variability to make your perfect drivetrain!
Notable Features:
Flipped motors opens up 1.8” per side compared to WCP SS Gearbox, over 3.5” saved in the width of your drivetrain
Compact form factor gives you more room for control system components, subsystem sections, and game pieces
A wide range of reductions from 5:1 to 15.5:1
Compatible with wheels from 3.25” to 6” in diameter
Accepts Kraken X60s or any other motors with a 2" bolt circle with a maximum diameter of 2.5" (~64mm)

The 2nd Stage of the gearbox is 1.053", which is a 52T distance. This means any gear set that adds up to 52T will fit. The only limit to this is the Driving Gear, which cannot be larger than 24T, otherwise it will collide with the Kraken X60 Motors.
Going one size larger to a 26T Gear will cause the gear to collide with the Kraken X60 Motors.
The table below lists all possible gear sets for the 2nd Stage of the gearbox.

The tables below list possible gear ratios and associated free speeds for the SS Flipped Gearbox.
The column headers show the gear sets for the first stage. The row headers show the gear sets used for the second stage. All speeds are in ft/s.
Refer back to the page and ensure that all necessary parts are located before starting assembly steps.

The gearbox should be assembled before installation, unless there is a space issue during installation that would prevent this.
Blue Loctite () is recommended on all bolts that thread into a tapped hole.

Blue Loctite (McMaster P/N 1004A12) is recommended on all bolts that thread into a tapped hole.
Install the 1/2" ID x 1-1/8" OD Flanged Bearing as shown below. The bearing should be a slip fit into the plate. If needed an arbor press can be used to press the bearing in. Use the two #10-32 x 1/4"L Bolts to prevent the bearing from backing out during operation.
Install the 1/2" Rounded Hex ID x 1-1/8" OD Flanged Bearing as shown below. The bearing should be a slip fit into the plate. If needed an arbor press can be used to press the bearing in.
The bearing flange should be on the opposite side of the plate from the bearing installed in Step 1.
Install the 3/8" ID x 7/8" OD Flanged Bearing as shown below. The bearing should be a slip fit into the plate. If needed an arbor press can be used to press the bearing in. Use the two #10-32 x 1/4"L Bolts to prevent the bearing from backing out during operation.
We recommend that you cut the drive shaft to the correct length before installation.
Slide desired gears, drive sprockets/pulleys, and spacers onto shaft.
Blue Loctite (McMaster P/N 1004A12) is recommended on all bolts that thread into a tapped hole.
Bolt the two halves of the gearbox together using the upper two #10-32 x 3" L Bolts and 3/8" OD x 2" L Spacers as shown in the image below.
The lower two #10-32 x 3" L Bolts and 1/2" OD x 2" L Spacers will be installed when the gearbox is mounted.
Install the motors with #10-32 x 1/2" L Bolts.
Only four bolts are required, but more may be added for extra security.
The Falcon Pinions must be spaced out from the motor nub with at least one 1/16" Falcon Spacer. The Falcon Pinions are retained using #8-32 x 1/2" L Bolts.
Q: What size wheel does this gearbox support?
