Applying VC-3
The following section will guide you through the correct application of Vibra-Tite VC-3. Follow each step carefully to ensure proper coating performance and the best user experience.
Step 1
This cleaning process is not required unless parts are heavily contaminated.
Prepare the fastener by wiping away any visible excess oil, grease, or dirt before applying. This improves coating adhesion and long-term performance.
Step 2
Shake or stir the Vibra-Tite VC-3 before using. Then apply an even coating around the threads in a 360° patch using the brush or bottle applicator tip.
If the VC-3 has thickened, it can be thinned slightly with MEK for a smoother application.
The coating should form a thin, even film around the threads. Avoid puddling or excessive buildup, as this can cause issues during installation.
VC-3 should not be applied to the entire thread length of the bolt. It should only be on the threads that will be used. For best results, the recommended thread coverage is approximately 30–50% of the thread root area as shown below.
Step 3
Once the VC-3 has been applied, air dry the coated fastener until the surface is dry to the touch. This can take a few minutes.
Do not install a fasteners while it is still wet. VC-3 works by friction and viscosity, not by hardening.
Step 4
Once the fastener has fully dried for a few minutes, it is ready for install and ready to provide a reliable, vibration-resistant lock between threads.
Coated fasteners can be reused up to five times before steps 1-3 should be repeated.
