These are some tips and tricks to keep the product running without a hitch. Failure to do maintenance may result in issues.
Loctite all bolts
Grease all gears
We recommend a dry grease or white lithium for all hex bore gears
We recommend Red n Tacky for the bevel gears
All bolts are tight and there are no gaps in the assembly
Gears mess correctly and everything spins smoothly
Check for excessive wear in gears
Reapply grease
Verify everything still spins smoothly
No damage to printed parts
Disassemble gearbox
Replace all gears, if aluminum gears were used
Clean all components
Inspect all components for wear or damage
Reassemble with new bolts with Loctite and grease all gears
This 3 stage gearbox is designed to assist teams in creating rotational arm joints. Making this gearbox is perfect for arms or turrets and many other situations where an axis needs to rotate.
Ideal for arms and other low revolution speed mechanisms
Easy integration with Friction Brake
Ability to get more reduction by mounting a VersaPlanetary Gearbox
Fixed or adjustable mounting options
Ability to add a 3rd stage via VersaPlanetary (Can be 1 or more stages)
Ability to add a 4th stage via Chain Reduction
Friction Brake Integration
CAM Tensioning

These tools are required for the assembly of the Rotation SS Gearbox
Allen Wrench Set
1/2” Snapring Pliers
The following pages cover the basic assembly instructions for the Rotation Gearbox
Blue Loctite (McMaster P/N 1004A12) is recommended on all bolts that thread into a tapped hole.
Blue Loctite (McMaster P/N 1004A12) is recommended on all bolts that thread into a tapped hole.
This step can be omitted if the brake was not purchased.
The brake must be assembled in place. For more detailed brake assembly steps, refer to the
Attach the two halves of the gearbox using four #10-32 x 1.75”L bolts and four 1.125”L spacers.
If the brake was not installed in Step 5, the 1/2” Hex to Spline Adapter can be skipped.
Attached desired output sprocket and retain with 1/2” snapring.
Use two #10-32 x 1/2”L bolts to attach the Mag Encoder mount.
The CTRE Mag Encoder Mount is not included and may be printed. Teams may choose to design their own mount or use the one in the CAD model. Magnet will come pre-installed in the shaft.
DO NOT over tighten bolts and crush 3D printed mount.
The gearbox spacer is required for the proper spacing to mount to a 1”x2” tube. Align the spacer plate with the gearbox plate and use the mounting holes.
Blue Loctite () is recommended on all bolts that thread into a tapped hole.
Press both bearings into the motor plate. This should be a light press it. The bearing flanges should both be on the same side.
Install the Falcon motor with two #10-32 x 1/2”L bolts.
Install the desired pinion and 1/16” Kraken Spacer.
Slide all desired gears and shaft into place.
Press bearings into the motor plate. This should be a light press fit. The bearing flanges should be on the same side.
